Philosophy as Approved by the Midland SDA Church Board
The library should provide good, readable, user-friendly, Biblically sound research tools for those giving Bible studies and those who wish to delve further into the doctrines and/or history of the Christian church.
The library needs to provide books which “nurture the soul”, foster spiritual growth, and show what living the Christian life is all about.
The library should provide books which show how to strengthen family relationships and teach parenting skills.
Christian fiction should exemplify a high moral/ethical tone in the portrayal of life situations. The writing should be high quality.
The children’s books should be well written and present high moral/ethical standards. The writing should be of such a caliber that children will become used to a good writing style.
Since a wide variety of books (mostly Christian, but not
necessarily SDA) are in the library, readers should always read with
discernment. And just because an author is an Adventist, doesn’t
mean that the reader should accept the author’s claims without question.
Mission Statement as Approved by the Midland SDA Church Board
It is the mission of the Midland SDA church library to
provide the congregation and its children with books and other resources
which will enhance spiritual growth and spiritual discernment, serve as
tools for deeper Bible study, and strengthen family relationships.
