Welcome to the Midland Seventh-day Adventist Church
Concert Series Page

As Christians it is our privilege to glorify God and to enjoy Him forever.  God has created mankind with the unique ability to respond to His gracious gifts to us with praise.  Among the many gifts God has bestowed are the abilities to perform and appreciate music.  With this we are blessed and with this we can glorify our Creator and Redeemer.

We, as a church congregation, wish to share this gift of music with the community at large by cordially inviting all to attend the events in our Concert Series.  Come, let us praise and worship the Lord together.

4:00 pm, May 6, 2006:  Hymn and Anthem Festival led by Dr. Peter Mathews

As Christians much of our theology is remembered and experienced through the medium of hymns.  This musical genre can travel  with us through each stage of our lives as encouragement, as comfort, as joy, as adoration, as admonition, as the expression of the longings of the soul.  It is fitting, then, that we devote time to the learning and singing of hymns.

This year we are pleased to welcome Dr. Peter Mathews to lead our hymn and anthem festival.

Since 1994 as a founding member and Artistic Director of the Central Florida choral ensemble, Orlando XIII, his combined talents as composer, conductor, and singer have proved to be invaluable to "one of the most exciting music groups in Central Florida."
Peter Mathews
From 1984 to 1997 Dr. Mathews was the conductor of The Orlando Singers (first established as the Florida Hospital Chorus) which developed a significant choral reputation in Central Florida.

He also conducts church choirs, teaches piano, and has served as composer-in-residence to several churches while serving as a staff singer.

Since 1999 he has served as Choirmaster for St. Barnabas Episcopal Church in DeLand, Florida and currently teachs at Jacksonville University, the University of North Florida and at Florida School of the Arts in Palatka.

He has written 180 compositions.
