Church Women United World Day of Prayer Comes to Midland
This
year's World Day of Prayer worship service "Let Everything That Has
Breath Praise the Lord" was written by women of Cameroon. They
invite us to "Africa in miniature," a country rich in diversity, where
climate and culture are widely different, but where the people are
bound together by a love for music, family and faith. The worship
service emphasizes the importance that the people of Cameroon place on
music and celebraton in their praise to God.
This year's
World Day of Prayer service will begin at the first sunrise on March 5
in the Pacific region and follow the Earth's orbit, shining its light
on Papua, New Guinea (women of Papua, New Guinea wrote the 2009 WDP
Celebration) and, in turn, the Americas, the Atlantic Ocean, Europe,
the coast of West Africa (where Cameroon lies) and the rest of the
world. Cameroon's World Day of Prayer committee included women
from many Christian demoninations including Presbyterian (French and
English), the Union of Baptist Churches, the Native Baptist Chursh,
Eglise Protestante Africaine, Eglise Fraternelle Lutherienne, Roman
Catholic, United Methodist anbd Eglise Evangelique Lutherienne, as well
as the YMCA.
The celebration is filled with much music and
will feature a dramatization of a story of a young girl in
MCameroon. An offering will be taken to support WDP grants
focusing on indigenous women and children's concerns. Church
Women United (CWU) is a global, ecumenical organization of Christian
women. Each year, along with sisters around the globe, Midland
CWO participates in four celebrations: Human Rights in January,
World Day of Prayer (WDP), May Fellowship Day, and World Commnunity
Day. Each celebration is held at a different church.
WDP's
motto is "informed prayer leads to prayerful action." Please
consider how you can turn your prayers into action in 2010 and begin by
taking part in this celebration. In Midland we will celebrate at
the Midland SDA Church starting at 8:30 am.
