Introduction: Test of faith story = Orchestra competitions in High School were held on Sabbaths.  Discuss the challenge and outcome.

I. The Big Test (Daniel 3:1-7)

  A. Command of False Worship (v. 1-4)

    1. This was exceptionally hard for Daniel’s friends because of the respect the King had for them.

    2. Their honor was diminished

  B. Non-Negotiable Decree (v. 5-7)

II. Putting God First (Daniel 3:8-18)

  A. Their prestige did not blind their loyalty

  B. Death by fire did not sway them

  C. Whether they’d be delivered or not; they stood on their faith of ultimate deliverance

III. Through The Fire (Daniel 3:19-25)

  A. God often does not prevent the trial

  B. However, God is present during the trial

    1. He lends strength

    2. His power is offered (Fear is unnecessary) (2 Timothy 1:7)

  C. This is where we see the “Faith of Jesus” in action (Rev. 14:12)

  D. Jesus Himself promised our life is hidden in Him (Matthew 10:27-29)

SOP: In His parting conversation with His disciples on the night before the crucifixion the Saviour made no reference to the suffering that He had endured and must yet endure. He did not speak of the humiliation that was before Him, but sought to bring to their minds that which would strengthen their faith, leading them to look forward to the joys that await the overcomer. He rejoiced in the consciousness that He could and would do more for His followers than He had promised; that from Him would flow forth love and compassion, cleansing the soul temple, and making men like Him in character; that His truth, armed with the power of the Spirit, would go forth conquering and to conquer.
